Dominic Holland

Despite still looking like he should be at school, comedian Dominic Holland has been performing stand-up for nearly 20 years and offers a very slick, corporate comedy performance.

A true comic's comic, he is of the most highly regarded comedians of his generation, and the late, great Bob Monkhouse said of him: “He is Britain’s funniest not yet famous comedian”. Dominic Holland has since done his best to amend the “not yet” bit.

Dominic Holland started out as a stand-up back in 1991, with his debut gig at the Comedy Café in London, where racked by nerves, he in his own words “died”.

Two years later, he was walking off with the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Festival having wowed national critics and fellow comics alike with his debut appearance at the comedy festival.

Dominic Holland’s own comic heroes Eddie Izzard, Frank Skinner and John Hegley came to see him on consecutive nights and he recalls “I now realise that this was my happiest time doing stand up”, while reassuring fans that he has spent every year and gig since trying to recapture that happiness.

He managed it again four years down the line with a nomination for the full Perrier on a list that also included famous TV comedian Bill Bailey, American comedian Rich Hall, cult British comedy act Armstrong & Miller, Al Murray and eventual winner Dylan Moran – an almost who’s who of British comedy both then and now.

His first ever TV appearance was for Central TV in 1992, a 20 minute set alongside a young Harry Hill (he hadn't even changed his name from Harry Hall then). It was broadcast at 2.30am for a fee of £200 each.

Still going strong 16 years later, Dominic Holland has made countless TV appearances, including hosting Have I Got News For You and as a guest on Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive. Comedian Dominic Holland is also a regular guest pundit on opinionated TV chat show The Wright Stuff.

Dominic Holland wrote and hosted two series of Bring Me The Head of Light Entertainment for Channel 5.
