Ron Sparks has burst onto the Canadian comedy scene in an incredibly short period of time. He first began performing as a member of York University's Vanier Improv Company but soon ventured into sketch comedy with much success. Ron's troupe, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, won the 2003 and 2004 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Troupe, and were nominated again in 2005. Ron began doing stand-up in April of 2003 and within a few months he had won the prestigious Tim Sims Encouragement Fund Award, given to Toronto's most promising new comedian. Frank Magazine recently described him as ''the next stand-up wunderkind.''
Winner of the 2004 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Stand-up Newcomer, Ron has established himself as one of the most intelligent and original comedy minds Canada has to offer. He is a regular at Canada's best clubs and appeared at the Halifax Comedy Festival, airing this year on CBC.
On Television, Ron can be seen as a recurring character on Toronto 1's The Toronto Show as their Hollywood Correspondent and has made appearances on Ed the Sock, Heat Meter, CBC Radio's Brave New Waves and Out Front, and is a frequent guest on Much Music's highly popular show Video On Trial.
Ron is also an incredibly gifted writer. He has written for CBC's This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and has won several awards as a playwright. Ron is also the recipient of the 2005 Canadian Comedy Award for best one person show for his series of comedic shorts entitled From the Desk of Ron Sparks presently airing on The Comedy Network.
With four Canadian Comedy Awards already to his credit in such a short time, Ron Sparks has quickly become one of the most in demand talents on the Canadian comedy scene.
