Comedy News: Channel 4 Put On Charity Show For Great Ormand Street Hospital

Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

With such a high profile line-up, this Charity gig is set to raise plenty of money for Great Ormand Street Hospital.

Charity gigs come in all shapes and sizes, from a bunch of stand-ups passing the hat round in a room above a pub to this, a Channel 4-backed night to benefit Great Ormond Street which features one of the most celeb-heavy lineups you’re likely to see anywhere this year. As Peep Show is unequivocally the network’s biggest comedy hit in recent years, it’s all the more fitting to have David Mitchell] as one of the main attractions, doing a relatively rare live turn. Among those joining him at the O2 are Channel 4 regulars like Sean Lock, Jack Whitehall and the Fonejacker, but the net’s also been spread wide enough to include the likes of Jonathan Ross and Gavin & Stacey stars Ruth Jones and James Corden. And given the charity involved, you can’t rule out a last-minute cameo from Sir Alan Sugar. If you can’t get a ticket, you’ll be able to see the whole thing on TV next month.

Michael McIntyre, Knock 2 Bag Comedy Club and Sarah Millican were stars of last night’s annual comedy awards.

Comedy News: David Beckham And James Corden Share A Bubble Bath For Charity!

Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

Friday 19th March is Sport Relief 2010, lots of celebs are getting invovled including David Beckham.

Football heartthrob David Beckham has come up with a novel way to raise money for charity - by lathering up in a tub with comedian James Corden.

The rotund funny man sank into a bubble bath with Beckham in a sketch for Sport Relief which has been called the “single funniest scene ever”, reported Daily Mail online.

In the three-minute sketch, which will be aired on BBC as part of the channel’s Sport Relief night, the pair share a candle-lit bath, with Corden giving Beckham’s toned, tattooed body the once over with an appreciative nod.

It was filmed in Milan a few weeks ago before Beckham, 34, was injured, ruling him out of this summer’s World Cup.

Beckham was just one of many sporting celebrities given the comedy treatment from Corden as part of this year’s Sport Relief.

His former Manchester United team mates were put through their paces as Corden led them in an aerobics workout which left Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand in fits of giggles.

Corden also joined forces with Olympic diver Tom Daly, Formula 1 driver Jensen Button and British tennis number one Andy Murray for the sketch.

There have been lots of crazy fundraising attempts being made in the past few weeks, watch sports relief tonight and see exactly what everyone’s been doing to help with this good cause!

Comedy News: Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 by comedy_admin3

Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

Here’s some irish comedians for you to keep your St Patrick’s day jolly!

It’s St Patrick’s Day, which means anyone and everyone will be jumping on the bandwagon of extravagant green celebrations.

Friends, colleagues and strangers will all boast of the most tenuous connection to Ireland, even if it is to reveal that their great grandmother of their father’s side once dated a red-headed chap called O’Reilly. That to all intents and purposes, makes people part of the wider Irish family, to enjoy the revelling.

Aside from the copious amounts of Guinness that will surely be consumed throughout today, the real spirit of St Patrick’s Day will be captured in the banter and the humour of its participants. The Irish sense of humour is legendary; here are five of the best Irish comedians doing what they do best.

Dara O’Briain

More famous now for his work on comedy panel shows such as Mock the Week, QI and The Panel, Dara O’Briain is still one of Ireland’s greatest stand-up comics. A self-confessed dweeb, and numbers nerd, O’Briain’s intellectual insights are acutely observed with scientific precision, which makes them all the more hilarious and true.

Dylan Moran

Dylan Moran is one of two things. He’s either a drunk who’s exceptionally funny, or a stunning observational comedian who seemingly never steps out of character to further his comedy. Either way, Moran uses the Irish stereotype to great effect, and his stage presence is eccentric and side-splittingly funny to watch.

Dave Allen

One of the comic greats throughout the 60s and 70s, Dave Allen was a story-teller in his comedy, inviting the audience in as he sat back, relaxed and smoked, recounting high tales and uproarious anecdotes. Allen branched into sketch show comedy, but his intimate comic routines will be his lasting legacy to comedy.

Ed Byrne

Witty and whimsical, Ed Byrne tickles the funny bone with his great observational comedy. The Perrier Award nominated comic has had a successful career in Ireland and UK with international tours of Canada, America, France, New Zealand and Australia. His attack on Alanis Morrissette’s song Ironic is a piece of pure comedy gold.

Ardal O’Hanlon

Most famous for his role as Father Dougal McGuire in Father Ted, Ardal O’Hanlon carved a niche for himself as the lovable Irish idiot. Whilst in his stand-up O’Hanlon could sometimes revert to type, his comedy is often a refreshing change from the naive moron of Dougal and often provides brilliant comic insights.

Have a look at some videos on these top comedians and get you in the mood for St Paddy’s Day!

It was a very close final but in the end there could be only one winner.

Comedian Rufus Hound won Let’s Dance for Sport Relief with his energetic parody of Cheryl Cole’s Fight For This Love.

Viewers voted Hound’s effort the top performance on Saturday night’s grand final on BBC One.

Fellow comedian Katy Brand came second for her performance of Beyonce’s Single Ladies.

Speaking after the result, Hound said: “”I believe this moment defines me and is history.”

Last year’s winner Robert Webb sat on the judging panel alongside comedians John Culshaw and Jack Dee and praised Hound for his commitment to the cause.

The Peep Show star who donned a leotard for his version of Flashdance in 2009 said: “It almost goes without saying you are more compelling than Cheryl Cole.

“You have chosen a costume that clearly hurts and in my experience the British public loves that.”

Rufus Hound’s version of Cheryl Cole’s Fight for this love is a must see!

Peter Crouch has been named the funniest man in British sport.

The England striker tops a poll for the best one liners and comedy moments, commissioned for Sky1’s new panel show A League of their Own.

When asked: “What would you be if you weren’t a footballer?” the Spurs star answered: “A virgin!” His position as the wittiest man in sport is backed up his famous “robot dance” to celebrate his goal for England against Hungary.

Runner-up is football legend George Best, who said: “I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered.”

Boxing’s Reg Gutteridge is remembered for his classic comment when Chris Eubank made his first flamboyant leap into the ring: “The ego has landed.”

Footie commentator John Motson claims top gaffe with: “For those of you watching in black and white, Spurs are in the all-yellow strip.”

Delia Smith gets a mention for her infamous “let’s be havin’ you!” half-time rallying call at Norwich; as does cricket’s Brian Johnston for “The bowler’s Holding, the batsman’s Willey.”

Although there have been many hillarious sporting moments, Peter Crouch’s humour has been deemed the funniest!

Bruce Forsyth is to get a comedy roasting for channel 4…

Strictly host Bruce Forsyth is to be “comedy roasted” with jokes and quips by fellow comics and celebs on a Channel 4 tribute show.

Insiders say the normally loyal BBC man, 81 “jumped at the chance” to make a rare appearance on C4 after bosses bought the show’s format from American TV.

Previous US victims have included Joan Rivers, 76, William Shatner, 78, and Pamela Anderson, 42.

An insider said: “Comedy Roasts will be a black-tie event harking back to the tradition of the New York Friars’ Club of the 1920s where Roasts first began.

“Just like then, the victims are subjected to a mix of insults, tall-tales and genuine tributes from friends. Brucie loved the idea.”

Other UK victims include Chris Tarrant and Sharon Osbourne. “Roasters”, on the series screened next month, include Alan Carr, Sean Lock, Jack Dee, Dame Edna, Jerry Springer and Louis Walsh.

Look out for this great tribute, don’t miss out!

Melbourne is again hosting it’s annual massive Comedy Festival.

It will be a case of ‘stand-up’ and be counted when nearly 400 national and international acts and events descend on Melbourne for the 24th Melbourne International Comedy Festival. With a 17 percent increase in the number of shows from last year, Australia’s largest cultural event – and one of the three biggest comedy festivals in the world – now boasts more laughs than ever.

The 24th Festival will be tickling Melbourne’s funnybone for four weeks from 24 March, bringing back the whimsy, pulling some legs, and just generally putting funny business back in some of our favourite festival venues: Melbourne Town Hall, Trades Hall, The Forum, City Square, Capitol Theatre, along with a host of new fabulous venues across the CBD and suburbs – from op shops to libraries. And with an extra $40,000 from the City of Melbourne to support late night programming, acts including Silent Disco, the world-wide festival phenomenon requiring headphones and dancing shoes, and American comedy duo Janeane Garofolo and Greg Behrendt will be keeping a smile on audiences’ dials til the early hours.

Sales thus far have exceeded expectation, with a number of performances selling out before the official program is released on 18 February. With Festival shows featuring everything from burlesque to break-ups, puppetry to poetry, and robots to rock comedy, all served with a healthy side of sex, religion and politics, the 24th Melbourne International Comedy Festival has something on the menu for everyone.
