BBC One show Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow will return for a second series, the corporation has confirmed.

A spokeswoman said the BBC was “absolutely delighted to continue working with Michael” and that the show had been “such a big hit for us”.

She said McIntyre would not be working with any other channels and that it had “a great relationship” with him.

She would not comment on a Daily Mail report that he had signed a 12-month contract worth £500,000.

In the first series, shown last summer, Michael McIntyre, 33, visited six theatres across the UK, acting as compere to a series of comedians.

The show regularly pulled in audiences of more than five million viewers.

In November, McIntyre, who has filled venues including Wembley Arena, told the BBC News website his comedy worked better in front of bigger audiences.

“I did the driving around the country, playing small rooms and adapting to different audiences,” he said.

“So, it’s taken me this long to get there, but it’s where I feel most comfortable in big arenas. I love running round the stage.”

McIntyre’s second live DVD, Hello Wembley, is the fastest selling stand-up DVD ever.

Corporate Comedian Hire from The Comedy Club at Colchester Institute Event

The latest Comedy Club corporate comedian and event testimonial comes from Colchester Institute who hired Paul Pirie and Geoff Norcott for a special event at the university. An important aspect of the performance was for each comedian to understand and adhere to the E&D Policy, ensuring each stand-up comedian was fully aware of the boundaries set and permissable material.

“They were brilliant especially Paul everyone found him the funniest and the most interactive with the audience (we will be asking for him again once another date is arranged), Geoff was also very good…very entertaining.

Both of the comedians stuck close to the E&D policy which we are very grateful for, also thank you for your hard work in finding some comedians which would best suit our audience.” Colchester Institute

News Feed: - Stephen Fry Lined Up As The Voice Of The Olympics.

He’s known more for his intellectual capacity and dry wit than his sporting prowess.

But Stephen Fry is being lined up as the voice of the London Olympics.

The comedian and broadcaster is in talks with organisers to help boost the profile of the event.

It is understood he has been invited for a tour of the Olympic Village in Stratford, East London before negotiations about his role begin.

One suggestion is he could be an ‘ ambassador’, featuring in adverts to encourage people to visit the 2012 Games. Another idea is to make him the ‘official voice’ of the event.

Fry confirmed: ‘I have been asked to have a meeting with the Olympics people. I am a supporter of it and I am really behind it.’

The 52-year-old has seen his profile soar in recent years after appearing on BBC1 quiz QI and ITV’s popular Sunday night drama Kingdom.

This week he was given a special achievement accolade at the National Television Awards honouring his work over the past 30 years.

In a tribute video played at the event, Prince Charles praised his ‘many talents’ and said everyone had a favourite character from the comedian’s repertoire.

Fry is also credited with boosting the profile of micro-blogging site Twitter with his updates and banter.

A spokesman for London 2012 Olympics said: ‘Stephen Fry has been very supportive of the Games.

‘We would love to have him involved. He is a very high profile figure and is well regarded both in the UK and internationally.

‘It would be great to have that kind of support. We are having meetings with him soon about how he can be involved.’

News Feed: Comedy - NBC Leno Switch Causes Outrage

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010 by comedy_admin
Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

Worldwide Comedy News Updated Daily

The funniest thing on NBC lately has been the network’s infamously inept handling of Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien.

In fact, Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel on ABC and David Letterman on CBS have all had field days with it. Even Leno and O’Brien have savaged their network, as it prepares to jettison O’Brien from The Tonight Show and return Leno to 11:30 p.m. — after installing O’Brien only last June and a failed attempt at a prime-time talk show for Leno.

O’Brien will make out like a bandit — receiving a reported $32.5 million severance.

Don’t cry for NBC, either. We suspect, after all, that they dethroned Leno in the first place out of an outdated form of ageism.

It’s just an armchair theory, but we suspect NBC forced Leno out of his 17-year perch at The Tonight Show — even as he was No. 1 in his time slot — because they wanted to make way for the younger O’Brien and that time-honored “coveted” 18-34 demographic.

If so, what a monumental mistake — one that we think all other broadcasters and marketers should learn from.

“Ninety percent of today’s marketing dollars are spent trying to reach this (18-to-34 age) group,” says marketing expert Brent Bouchez, writing in Forbes . “Marketers lust after them, and media companies do everything in their power to lure them to their Web sites, magazines, TV shows and radio stations.”

That’s hopelessly old-fashioned, Bouchez suggests: “This strategy made perfect sense in 1975, when 18-to-34-year-old folks were smack in the middle of the baby boom.” Problem is, he says, “Along the way the ‘youth’ demographic became not just the sweet spot of marketing. They became the only spot.”

It’s no longer reflective of reality, if it ever was. Today, those 50 and older earn $2.4 trillion compared with $1 trillion made by 18-to-34-year-olds. Yet, AARP says those 50 and up feel ignored by marketers.

“Madison Avenue continues to live by a set of outdated rules,” Bouchez writes.

Consider just the size of the baby boom generation: some 78 million.

Thom Villing, who owns a marketing firm in South Bend, Ind., says advertisers may also exaggerate, to their detriment, how set in their ways boomers are. In truth, brand loyalty isn’t what it used to be, he says, and boomers’ money is more up for grabs than marketers suspect.

According to McKinsey Consulting, as of this year, 50 percent of all consumer spending is expected to be by the over-50 group.

“And yet, less than 10 percent of all U.S. marketing dollars are spent” trying to attract those 50 and over, Bouchez writes.

Is that worn-out, overdone, all-out effort to get the “coveted” 18-34 demographic behind the multimillion-dollar blunder at NBC?

If so, is the lesson learned?
